We test before we degrease
Testing the solution on a hidden spot is a step we treat as necessary, not optional.

Al Bahr is one of the four historic quarters inside the walled old city of Jeddah, built in the early thirteenth century with stone and timber houses set close together and old pipes running between them. The kitchen here carries grease accumulated over decades mixed with heavy lime scale on rusty iron taps and the grey sediment that roof tank water deposits on every surface.
Pipes and taps in Al Bahr are very old and carry heavy mineral deposits that blacken surfaces quickly and do not restore to shine. For the method itself, see our guide to kitchen cleaning.
Old neighbourhoods and old water systems leave thick white deposits on copper, iron and ceramic. In Al Bahr the scale is heaviest because the roof tank water is ancient and the pipework is deeply corroded. Basin, sink and shower are all covered in scale that does not respond to normal wiping.
The heritage homes have terrazzo floors worn smooth and slippery with age, but grease and sediment sticking to the surface. The narrow lanes mean road dust enters through small windows and low doors, and the floor darkens fast. Working in the confined space demands care.
The timber cabinets are very old with paint that is flaking and cracked, and accumulated grease has penetrated the paint and reached the wood. Removing the grease must be careful because the paint is fragile and a strong material will damage the timber rather than clean it.
Al Bahr lies in the north western part of Al Balad near the old harbour behind Bab Al Farda, the historic customs gate, with narrow lanes and heritage buildings of coral stone and timber in the roshan architectural style.
Old timber cabinets in Al Bahr have flaking paint and grease has penetrated deeply into the wood, requiring careful handling.
The hood and filter are very old and corroded, and heavy accumulated grease needs treatment that does not further damage the old metal.
Oven and hob here are often older wood-burning fixtures with iron and copper, grease on timber and metals needs separate approaches.
Tiles behind the hob, where they exist, are ancient and the grouting is weak, so hard scrubbing may crack tile and break the mortar.
Basin and tap are very old copper or iron deeply corroded with scale, and lime deposits need hours to soften.
The floor is ancient terrazzo worn smooth and slippery, grease and sediment cling to it easily and do not yield to normal mopping.
Painted cabinets, laminate, natural stone and stainless steel do not take the same degreaser.
We start high, the tops of cabinets and the hood, and work down to the floor.
The degreaser is put on the heavy areas and given time to break the oil down before it is wiped.
The metal filter carries the worst of the grease and is soaked and worked on its own, not just wiped in place, because a clogged filter puts the oil straight back into the air.
The burners, the tiled splash and the grout lines take focused work, since the grout darkens first and a flat wipe passes over it.
We go over the kitchen with you before the team leaves.
Historic district: close-set buildings, narrow lanes and ageing services
Historic means everything is weaker and slower to respond: the pipes and metals and paint and floors are all aged, so the material, timing and care are different from a modern home.
Testing the solution on a hidden spot is a step we treat as necessary, not optional.
We send a team, not a single worker.
The degreasers and tools come with the team.
If what the kitchen needs is a repair or pest treatment rather than a clean, we say so.

The commitment is simple enough to actually keep: we do not leave before you have seen the result and told us what you think of it.
Central Jeddah is the old heart of the city: Al Balad with its coral stone houses, and the dense apartment quarters around it with shops beneath the flats. Floors here are often terrazzo or older ceramic tile, worn smooth and easily stained by cooking grease that drifts up from the street. Older kitchens and bathrooms carry heavy scale on taps and around drains, and pipework in the older blocks leaves rust marks in basins. Rugs and curtains take on the fine black dust of the main roads, so they need washing more often than elsewhere.
We provide these in Al Bahr too, and more than one can share a single visit.
