The right gear for drinking water
Pumps to clear sludge, scrubbing to remove biofilm, and disinfectant meant for potable storage.

Al Balad Historic Jeddah has close set coral stone merchant houses in the roshan style, and very old pipework hidden beneath the streets. Tanks here usually serve multiple units crammed into narrow old buildings. Ancient pipes leave rust marks, and main road dust is fine and black. Buildings and rooftops are tight together, and the tank needs careful inspection and thorough disinfection to keep water safe.
Old pipes leave pink rust marks in basins, and fine black dust from main roads clings to curtains and rugs more tenaciously than in newer neighbourhoods. For the method itself, see what water tank cleaning involves.
Al Balad has pipes from decades ago. Rust leaves brown red water marks. The tank may be clean, but pipes stain the water brown. Regular cleaning helps, but the pipes themselves may need replacement to fully solve rust tinting.
Buildings are very close together and flats are numerous. One tank may serve eight or ten households. Coordination with everyone is difficult and draining cuts water for many people at once.
The main roads through Al Balad carry heavy traffic. Fine black dust clings to everything. The tank needs strong regular disinfection, because new dust will enter as long as the streets are in use.
A UNESCO World Heritage old town with stone and timber merchant houses in the roshan style from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, divided into four historic quarters with traditional markets and very old underground pipework.
Tank inspection in old buildings focuses on cracks, seepage and secure mounting on tight rooftop spaces where movement is risky.
Full draining requires very careful coordination with many households in a single building, as residents may be affected differently and want different work times.
Sediment removal clears black dust and white scale deposits from old corroded pipework that feeds the tank.
Walls and floor scrubbed by hand remove algae growth and white mineral scale that accumulates in old buildings with hard water.
Disinfection must be safe because water may already be contaminated by old rusty pipes, and strong disinfection protects against bacterial growth.
Lid and seal inspection is critical for old tanks, as metal fittings may be corroded and may need replacement parts.
The supply into the tank is shut and the tank is drained completely.
The sludge on the floor is scooped and pumped out first.
The biofilm on the walls is physically scrubbed off.
With the walls and floor clean, a disinfectant made for drinking-water storage is applied and given time to act on every surface.
The disinfectant and any loosened residue are rinsed down and pumped out, so the first tank of water after us is not carrying it.
We check the cover seal and inlet before refilling, so dust and insects stay out, then start the refill while you watch it run clear.
Al Balad divides into four old quarters, and the Al Shafii Mosque and Souk Al Alawi are major landmarks. Tanks sit on building rooftops throughout each quarter. We reach them through the narrow old buildings or the old streets surrounding the Al Shafii Mosque and Souk Al Alawi.

We send a team, not one person, so a tank is drained, cleaned, disinfected and refilled in a single visit rather than left open for days.
We look at the lid seal and inlet, because a tank that got dirty fast usually has a way in.
Nothing is closed until the tank is refilling and you have seen the water run clean.

The commitment is simple enough to actually keep: we do not leave until the tank is disinfected, refilling, and you have seen it for yourself.
Central Jeddah is the old heart of the city: Al Balad with its coral stone houses, and the dense apartment quarters around it with shops beneath the flats. Floors here are often terrazzo or older ceramic tile, worn smooth and easily stained by cooking grease that drifts up from the street. Older kitchens and bathrooms carry heavy scale on taps and around drains, and pipework in the older blocks leaves rust marks in basins. Rugs and curtains take on the fine black dust of the main roads, so they need washing more often than elsewhere.
We provide these in Historic Jeddah too, and more than one can share a single visit.
