The right gear for drinking water
Pumps to clear sludge, scrubbing to remove biofilm, and disinfectant meant for potable storage.

Al Sahifah is an old central quarter adjoining historic Jeddah directly, with ancient urban fabric and newer apartment buildings packed tightly together. One tank serves many flats in close-packed buildings and sometimes small shops at street level. Pipes are extremely cramped and hard to access, rust migrates from confined corroded pipework, and coordination with residents is difficult because the neighbourhood is so dense. Turning the water off affects dozens of people simultaneously.
Tanks serve very densely packed apartment buildings with extremely old narrow confined pipes, and rust from these confined old pipes contaminates water very quickly. For the method itself, see our guide to water tank cleaning.
Al Sahifah is old and buildings are packed very closely, and one tank serves many flats. When we clean, water stops for dozens of people at once. Coordination is very difficult and resistance from some residents is predictable. Strong clear agreements ahead of time are essential.
The old quarter has tight confined spaces and pipes are crammed into walls. Rust accumulates fast and pipes may be partially blocked. Water runs weak in upper flats. Cleaning addresses the tank but the narrow old pipes are the root cause.
Small shops on ground floors may be bakeries or small cafes. Fats and dust from these shops enter the same tank serving the residential flats above. Cleaning must be vigorous because commercial dirt is harder to remove than residential sediment.
An old central district wedged between Al Balad, Al Ammariyah, Al Kandarah and Al Sabil, with Old Makkah Road along its northern edge and King Abdulaziz Road running through it. Old urban fabric interleaved with newer apartment buildings and small businesses.
Tank inspection in Al Sahifah must focus on rust staining and moisture from extremely old narrow confined pipes.
Full drainage is essential because the tank serves a very densely packed apartment building and sediment loads are heavy.
Sediment here is heavy metal oxides from very old narrow pipes and may include contaminants from small ground-floor commercial use.
Vigorous scrubbing is needed because walls may be fouled from heavy use and from commercial activity adding different types of dirt.
Disinfection must be strong to kill bacteria from old pipes and from heavy continuous consumption in a dense quarter.
Lid and pipe inspection must be extremely thorough because confined old piping is the primary contamination source.
The supply into the tank is shut and the tank is drained completely.
The sludge on the floor is scooped and pumped out first.
The biofilm on the walls is physically scrubbed off.
With the walls and floor clean, a disinfectant made for drinking-water storage is applied and given time to act on every surface.
The disinfectant and any loosened residue are rinsed down and pumped out, so the first tank of water after us is not carrying it.
We check the cover seal and inlet before refilling, so dust and insects stay out, then start the refill while you watch it run clear.
Apartment district: residential blocks, repeated floors and shared entrances
Dense apartment district means the tank serves crowded residential buildings and may also serve small ground-floor shops. Pipes are extremely old, narrow and confined, and rust from them taints water quickly. Coordination with many residents is difficult. Water often arrives at the tank already contaminated from confined old piping.
Pumps to clear sludge, scrubbing to remove biofilm, and disinfectant meant for potable storage.
We send a team, not one person, so a tank is drained, cleaned, disinfected and refilled in a single visit rather than left open for days.
We look at the lid seal and inlet, because a tank that got dirty fast usually has a way in.
Nothing is closed until the tank is refilling and you have seen the water run clean.
Photographs from real jobs carried out by the crew.

The commitment is simple enough to actually keep: we do not leave until the tank is disinfected, refilling, and you have seen it for yourself.
Al Sahifah stands between Old Makkah Road and King Abdulaziz Road, near Bab Sharif and King Abdulaziz Mosque, both landmarks anchoring the old quarter. The tank usually sits on the roof of the old apartment building itself, accessed via the narrow lanes of the neighbourhood from Old Makkah Road or from Khalid ibn Al Walid Street.
We provide these in Al Sahifah too, and more than one can share a single visit.
