The access to reach it safely
A crystal fixture over a stairwell is not a job for a kitchen stool.

Ghulail is a decades-old informal quarter in south Jeddah next to the former Al Mahjar quarantine district. Its narrow lanes and worn streets suffered from failing drainage and uncollected refuse, and its informal buildings have been cleared entirely under the South Jeddah redevelopment programme. Now the land is under reconstruction with vacant plots between the homes and building work ongoing. Dust from workshops and construction is very heavy, and chandeliers in the remaining homes need cleaning designed to remove construction dust, cement and grit together.
Dust here is coarse and heavy from workshops and construction, a mix of sand, grit, cement and fine dust from machinery together. Building work, machines and trucks leave dust on everything, and old water supply fails and returns leaving sediment in pipes and roof tanks. For the method itself, see our guide to chandelier cleaning.
Dust in Ghulail is not ordinary: it is a mix of cement, sand, grit and fine dust from machinery. This dust is heavy and settles fast and can be hazardous if breathed. The chandelier gathers it quickly and cleaning needs special care because cement can scratch glass if not handled right.
Most homes in Ghulail are surrounded by building and machinery, and noise and dust are constant. The chandelier may gather new dust every day while work continues. We may need to coordinate with the construction team to pause work temporarily while we clean the fixture.
Streets in Ghulail are worn and water supply fails and returns, roof tanks are old and pipes are in poor condition. Water from the ceiling may carry high humidity and lime scale deposits, and may affect the chandelier if it hangs near conduit.
Ghulail is located in south Jeddah next to the former Al Mahjar district, within the South Jeddah redevelopment project, currently under full reconstruction with informal building clearance and new building underway. Vacant land, worn streets and ongoing construction define the current environment.
Chandeliers in Ghulail are usually simple local pieces: brass with local crystal or glass, and relatively new because modern building replaced informal housing. But heavy dust may have caused fine abrasion marks on every piece so we inspect carefully.
Electrics are relatively modern in newer homes, but building around the home may affect conduit. We inspect with special care and do not touch the fixture if there is any hazard.
Photography before dismantling is clear: heavy dust hides all details so we clean more before photos to see the true sequence.
Each piece is washed in solvents designed for construction dust and cement, crystal is rinsed in clean water and dried immediately. Cement may need soaking and careful rubbing.
Frame, arms and all metal parts are cleaned of heavy dust with great care because cement is sharp. We watch for any scratches or impact from sharp dust particles.
Reassembly follows the same sequence with care, each piece in position. Testing before power is restored is thorough: every wire, every component. The light works and shines evenly before we ask for your approval.
The circuit is switched off before anything is touched, and warm bulbs are given time to cool.
We check how it is built, which crystals are loose, and how it comes apart before removing a thing.
The area under the fixture is covered before we start, so a dropped crystal lands soft and nothing marks the floor or table below.
Where the piece allows, crystals come off and are washed and dried individually.
With the crystals off or aside, the frame, arms, bulb holders and ceiling mount are wiped down, since that is where film and webs hide behind the glass.
Every crystal goes back to its place, the fixture is switched on and checked, and we walk the room with you.
Ghulail sits about 1.5 km from Al Quraiyat and about 2 km from Al Nuzlah Yamaniyah.

We send a team, not one person, so crystals come off, get washed and go back in one visit, without a lone worker hurrying a fragile piece to finish before dark.
Whether crystals come off or are cleaned in place depends on how the fixture is built.
Nothing is done until the fixture is back together, switched on, and you have seen it throw its light.

The commitment is simple enough to actually keep: we do not leave until the fixture is reassembled, lit, and you have seen it for yourself.
Ghulail is located near Al Mahjar Street and Al Falah Road which bound the area, and ongoing construction around the quarter is the main landmark, so work is organised by how close the flat is to the main construction site where dust is worst or away from it.
We provide these in Ghulail too, and more than one can share a single visit.
